But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God's unfailing love forever and ever.

Mary Mohr 1906-2009

Mary Mohr was a close family friend of Frank's. She passed away last week at the age of 102. It's been so hard to mourn her death since she lived such an amazing and long life...we should all be so lucky. I told Frank that I'm sure the Lord was standing there to greet her and while looking at his watch said, "It's about time you show up!" :) We miss her dearly.

Mary was the fourth of eleven children and the last living one. Her parents both died when she was fairly young.

She graduated from nurse's training in 1927 and worked as a nurse in and around South Dakota for many years. In 1952, she moved to Alaska where she lived for 20 years. This is where she became roommates with Frank's mom, Genevieve.

In 1971, at the age of 65, she retired from nursing and moved to Honolulu, Hawaii and did volunteer work in a hospital 2 days a week for the next 13 years. In 1988, she moved to Renton where she has lived in an apartment, by herself, ever since.

She was able to do some extensive traveling in her life. She had been to China, Japan, Europe and New Zealand. She once bought a 30-day Greyhound bus ticket and traveled the US. For her 90th birthday, she flew the Concord from New York to Paris. Five days later, she returned to the US on the Queen Mary II, which took 6 days. On her 95th birthday, she flew to Hawaii (alone) to visit friends.

Mary never married or had children but was very close to some nieces whom she talked to everyday.

Here are a couple of pictures taken in November of 2007. One is of Mary with Haley and Maddy and the other is of Mary, Haley, Maddy and Frank.

Our love and prayers go to Mary's family.

Wow! What a spirit...I can only hope that I am able to keep up with her when I am 100!
